Leinster ,Scotland and former British & Irish Lions lock Nathan Hines, the 34 years old Australian, will shortly sign a 2 years contract with Stade Francais , according to French rugby media sources.
The possible loss of Hines would be a serious blow for Leinster, to whom he has given sterling service since he joined them from Perpignan.
At 34, though, the temptation of a return to France and a two year contract would be difficult to refuse. He would have little difficulty in re-settling in France, albeit ironically with Stade Francais whose complaint against Hines alleged foul play three years ago led to his being suspended and thus missing Scotland’s important international against his native Australia.
It seems unlikely that Leinster would offer Hines another 2 years contract and with the salaries currently on offer in France, this may not just be a ‘wild rumour’ . It would give Leinster and Ireland the opportunity of giving more game time to Devon Toner.,though many Leinster fans prefer the team to replace Hines, if he goes, with another International star. Ireland’s Management no doubt would prefer an Irish solution.
