Thomas Levet has won the French Open at Le Golf National. The Frenchman finished one shot ahead of Thorbjorn Olesen and Mark Foster after a closing round of 70.

The victory was Levet’s first French Open title at his 25th attempt, while the $442,446 prize money is the largest win of Levet’s career.

Both Olesen and Foster missed late opportunities to force a play-off. Olesen missed a short putt for par on the 18th, while Foster’s 20 yard effort stayed out.

World number four Martin Kaymer finished three shots off the pace on four under.
