Niall Mulligan scored the game’s only goal as Longford defeated Fermanagh in their NFL Division 4 clash at Brewster Park last night.
Mulligan punched the ball to the Fermanagh net after 59 minutes and three further late points wrapped up the game for the visitors.
Fermanagh led 0-04 to 0-03 at the break after a poor first half. Sean McCormack hit Longford’s opening point before Tomas Corrigan replied for the hosts.
Three pointed frees from Terry O’Flanagan sent John O’Neill’s men ahead soon after. However, Longford were much better in the second period and a late free from O’Flanagan was Fermanagh’s only score of the half.
Two further points from Paddy Dowd put Longford 0-05 to 0-04 in front and Mulligan’s crucial goal gave Glenn Ryan’s side a platform which they built on and pushed all the way to the finish.
