Manchester United beat Blackburn 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Goals from Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young helped United go five points clear at the top

Manchester United winger Ashley Young, who scored their second goal in their vital 2-0 win over Blackburn: “It was a massive game for us, we knew we could go five points clear at the top, it was a great result and a good performance. It’s a crucial time of the season. It’s a squad game and we are all here to do a job. We had to be patient, we knew we could create chances. It’s a massive lead for us now.”

Everton captain and former Manchester United defender Phil Neville on BBC Radio 5 live at Ewood Park: “Blackburn look a side full of spirit and fight and I think Steve Kean can take a lot of positives out of the night. But it was planned to perfection for United. Antonio Valencia was the key man. I’ve played against him and he’s not like some wingers where if you smash them early on you can quiet them down – he’s built like a brick. He’s underrated, people don’t talk about him but Alex Ferguson knows the qualities he’s got.”
