Irish player Mark Allen defeated tournament favourite Neil Robertson 6-4 yesterday afternoon to reach the semi final of The Masters. Allen will now face Marco Fu, who defeated Peter Ebdon 6-0 in their evening match.

The Antrim man took the opening two frames, with breaks of 63 and 69, before Robertson got back into the match taking the next two frames and leaving the players tied at the mid session interval. Robertson went 3-2 after the restart with breaks of 47 and 50 in the fifth frame.

Allen took the sixth frame after a long battle to make it 3-3,but a break of 71 helped Robertson move ahead once again in the seventh. The Irish player made a 57 in the next and snookered the Australian, who conceded to leave the match level once more. A break of 75 gave Allen the lead again before he took a 69-point lead in frame 10. However, he missed the red that would have clinched frame and opened the door for Robertson to recover.

Robertson had to go for broke in the last, and when he missed his shots, Allen potted the red and pink to give him match advantage. The Australian continued but, needing three snookers, he inadvertently potted the final red and conceded after missing the subsequent black.
