Mayo beat arch rivals Galway

Jason Doherty was the Mayo hero, finding the net in each half as Mayo beat great rivals, Galway in Tuam on Sunday afternoon.

The Burrishoole man found the net after 23 minutes and his goal proved the difference as Mayo led by 1-7 to 0-7 at half-time.

Kevin McLoughlin and Aidan Campbell added early points after the restart and Mayo were 2-13 to 0-7 ahead after when Doherty struck for his second goal.

Sean Armstrong, Cormac Bane and Joe Bergin added late scores for Galway, but the tribesmen are now pointless after three games and are in danger of being relegated.

Mayo boss, James Horan, was playing down the result after, perhaps having one eye on the pairs championship clash later this year:

“Galway are a lot better than they played today. They’ll be a different team in the summer”.
