Jame McClean has been given the all clear to travel with the Irish squad today despite having to sit out the week’s training sessions due to a cold.
The Sunderland winger was tipped to make his first competitive start in Friday’s qualifier, but Giovanni Trapattoni has said he will start with Nottingham Forest’s Simon Cox on the left had side of midfield.
The 22 man squad will make the 3,000 mile trip to today so as to adjust to the five hour time difference.
Trapattoni will start James McCarthy in midfield alongside Cox, Glenn Whelan and Aiden McGeady, and also suggested that Jonathan Walters will be favoured to Kevin Doyle up front with Robbie Keane due to the Stoke man’s physical presence.
The Italian said that should no last minute issues arise he will start with Kieran Westwood in goal and Stephen Ward, Darren O’Dea, Sean St Ledger and John O’Shea along the back line.
