Irish Davis Cup team-mates, Barry King and James McGee were both involved in the semi finals of the Green Property Men’s Irish Open $15,000 Futures event Fitzwilliam LTC this afternoon.

In glorious sunshine, McGee was first out on court against Miloslav Mecir whose father won the men’s singles gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games.

McGee stormed into an early lead when he took the first set 62. Mecir took the second 63 and broke McGee early in the third set to go 3-0 up before McGee broke back to bring the match to a tiebreak. McGee encouraged by the home crowd raced through the tiebreak to win the match 76(3) and reach the final of the Men’s Irish Open.

After his heroics against the number 4 seed Michael Look last night, Barry King took on the number 1 seed who beat fellow Irish players John Morrissey and Sam Barry earlier in the week. Brezac took just over one hour to win the match and beating King 60 64.

The Men’s Irish Open Singles Final featuring Irelands James McGee v Charles-Antoine Brezac (FRA) will commence at 2.30pm in Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club this afternoon. Adminission is free to all.
