Mourinho: Leaving Chelsea was ‘a fantastic divorce’

Updated: October 1, 2012

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourihno says that he would be happy to work under Roman Abramovich at Chelsea again and there are no hard feelings between the pair.

Speaking to CNN, Mourinho said “I think it was the perfect example of a fantastic divorce,” and that he and the Russian owner are still in touch “a lot.”

“An example is Michael Essien was going to another club and when I said ‘Please. Leave it to you friend’, he left it to his friend. We have a great relationship.”

Mourihno also deflected the suggestion that he is awaiting the retirement of Alex Ferguson to go back to English football as the Manchester United.

“No, the perfect situation for me when I go (back to England) that he is still a coach because I think that football will lose a lot when he stops.

“For me he’s the boss…and I hope when I go back to English football he is still managing Man United.”

Mourinho says that he is happy at Real Madrid and has not set any time period on when he will return to England.

Madrid play Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday night before attempting to claw back some of the eight points they trail Barcelona when the sides meet in El Clasico on Sunday night.
