Munster’s big three set for comeback

Updated: September 11, 2012

Ronan O’Gara, Keith Earls and Conor Murray are all set to make a return to the Munster squad for the away clash with Ulster on Friday night.

The three Irish internationals will be named in the squad for Friday’s RaboDirect Pro12 game when it is announced later this week.

Irish lock Donncha O’Callaghan is also expected to travel with the squad after missing last week’s win over Treviso due to his wife giving birth to their second child.

Niall Ronan will travel with the squad but the 29-year old is more likely to be involved in the A game at Belfast Harlequins’ Deramore Park.

The flanker was preparing to play with club Shannon on Saturday but as their game has been called off it is believed he will travel north with Munster although Ronan is likely to be at the A game on Friday and not Ravenhill.

Munster coach Rob Penney will have his team primed and ready to continue the solid start to the season in Belfast and it will be made a lot easier with the services of Murray, Earls and O’Gara.

Munster will have to contend with an impressive Ulster squad which recently re-acquired the services of Irish internationals Stephen Ferris and Andrew Trimble for last week’s dramatic win over the Ospreys.

However the northerners will be missing the services of the influential South African Ruan Pienaar as the scrum-half is on international duty in the Rugby Championship.

The 28-year old, who can also play at fly-half, will be missed by Ulster as they seek to continue their recent good form over their southern compatriots.

Munster will be anticipating the first inter-provincial clash of the season as they lost heavily to Ulster in a New Year’s Day clash at Ravenhill last year.
