Neptune Collonges will miss the John Smith’s Grand National after he was withdrawn from the race on Sunday to focus on the Totesport Gold Cup.
The withdrawal of the ten-year-old, now leaves last year’s winner Don’t Push It as the outright top weight for Aintree on 11st 12lb. The pair had shared the weight before yesterday’s decision was announced.
Trainer Paul Nicholls said:
“I scratched Neptune because [owner] John Hales is away and the next deadline is Monday. We’ve decided he’s got too much weight. He is A1 now and will go for the Gold Cup. He could go to Aintree for the Totesport Bowl or Punchestown, but John would like to leave the National for next year.”
