New Pole Vault record for Tori Pena in Reno

Tori Pena (Finn Valley AC) improved her Irish Pole Vault Record to 4.45m in Reno, Nevada USA.

Although short of the World Indoor qualification standard of 4.52m, Pena bettered the National Indoor Pole Vault record of 4.21m which she set in Seattle in January last year and the vault is higher than her Irish record of 4.40m.

Meantime at the Woodie’s DIY Junior Indoor Championships today, World Youth Champion, Kate Veale (West Waterford AC) added another national title to her collection when she easily won the women’s 3,000m walk in a time of 13:29.37.

European Youth Olympic Festival 800m Medallist Karl Griffin (Tir Chonaill AC) put in a stunning run to win the men’s 400m in 50.43 showing he has the pace to pursue his preferred distance of 800m as he moves up the ranks, while Sarah Lavin, also an EYOF medallist won the Junior women’s 60m hurdles in 8.74.
