Paralympics: Catherine O’Neill wins a silver medal in the Discus

Irish Paralympian Catherine O’Neill has won silver medal of the London2012 Paralympic Games in the Women’s Discus Throw – F51/52/53 with a throw of 5.66m, a Seasonal Best.

Catherine from New Ross is one of Ireland’s most experienced field event athletes having competed in both the 2000 Sydney and 2008 Beijing Paralympics with a best finish of 4th in the Discus in Sydney (6th in Discus in Beijing).

Catherine previously won gold in the Discus at the 1998 Birmingham World Championships. She also won gold in Discus and silver in the Club at the IPC World Athletic Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2011.

Josie Pearson, team GB, won the gold medal with a throw of 6.58m, a new World Record, while USA’s Zena Cole took home the bronze with a throw of 5.25m.
