Wicklow 1-13 Dublin 1-18
Wicklow had too much to do in the second-haf on a windy night at Éire Óg GAA club in Greystones as the All-Ireland championships coasted to a five point win over the home side.
Having played with the wind in the first-half; the Dubs strolled to a 1-13 to 0-05 lead at the interval. The sky blues proceeded to empty their bench from there with Wicklow mounting a stirring second-half comeback; but it never looked likely to be enough to overcome the Sam Maguire holders.
Both sides in fact gave opportunities to their panel with Austin O’Malley at full forward for Wicklow, Conor McGraynor at centre forward and Jason Bolger at centre back. Joey Kelly and Adam Merryman were also given starts as Harry Murphy experimented a little.
Having outscored Dublin 1-08 to 0-05 in the second-half; Wicklow will be happy with what turned out to be a respectable score in the end against the Leinster and All-Ireland champions. Dublin manager Pat Gilroy meanwhile will have been pleased to give some of his fringe players a run out and to get back to winning ways with championship 2012 some five weeks away.
