McKENNA CUP: St Mary’s 1-16 Armagh 2-7
St Mary’s College caused the biggest upset of the Dr McKenna Cup to date when they defeated Armagh in the competition last night.
The students never looked like losing and while their goalkeeper Niall Morgan, who also scored two points, can be credited for eight goalmouth saves, the college side always had matters under control.
Two goals from Gareth Swift saved Armagh from an even heavier defeat, and with the National League encounter against Dublin on Saturday, February 5, they will have to vastly improve considerably over the next few weeks.
Peter Hartes penalty helped St Marys to a 1-7 to 1-4 lead at half-time, and while Armagh were denied numerous goal attempts, St Marys boasted the personnel to chip away points at the other end.
