Martin O’Neill has openly admitted that he is looking to strengthen his side having recently been linked with moves for Karl Henry of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Carlos Cuellar from Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion’s Keith Andrews.
The latest player linked with a summer move to the Stadium of Light is another Wolves player. Scotland international Steven Fletcher. The former Burnley striker could be the ideal solution to bolster O’Neill’s strike force.
As Wolves stare relegation in the face it is inevitable that their top players will be linked with moves to other Premiership clubs but after forking out £7million for Fletcher the financial security of selling him for somewhere near that amount could be vital for the clubs plan to bounce back.
Sunderland manager O’Neill is still hoping to test out some of the youngsters in his ranks before the end of the season. Yet he is still looking for experienced Premiership players.
As relegation looms for Wolves they could well have a battle to keep any of their best players, with the Premiership vultures circling in search of a bargain from a troubled team.
