Sunderland to swoop for Aston Villa striker

Updated: April 23, 2012

Martin O’Neill looks poised to raid his old club Aston Villa by making a sensation £12million swoop for Gabriel Agbonlahor according to Mirror Football.

The Villain’s striker hasn’t been in his best form this season and could be eager to rejoin O’Neill to rejuvenate his career.

With O’Neill set for a striker shortage at the end of the season with Nicklas Bendtner’s loan coming to an end and Asamoah Gyan unlikely to return to the Stadium of Light Agbonlahor could be an ideal candidate for the Black Cats. Agbonlahor played some of his best football under O’Neill’s management and may see this as a great opportunity for a fresh start with an old colleague.

Aston Villa may be keen to sell for such a hefty price tag as they look to sign a strike themselves in the summer. A move for Heerenveen’s Bas Dost seems to be out of the question now after the striker’s agent claimed he was looking for a bigger club. So a £12million transfer kitty wouldn’t go amiss
