Swansea are close to signing Chelsea’s promising young midfielder Josh McEachran on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.
Both Andre Villas-Boas and Brendan Rodgers have admitted that the deal is close to being completed and should be done within the next 24-48 hours.
The 18 year old is highly rated at Stamford Bridge but has had a lack of opportunities in the first team this season in a midfield that even Frank Lampard is struggling to get into.
McEachran is highly sought after by other Premier League clubs, with Aston Villa and Bolton both inquiring about his services but it looks like Brendan Rodgers at Swansea has landed the young English prospect.
Swansea boss Rodgers was formerly a coach at Chelsea and still enjoys a good relationship with his old club after coaching their reserve team under Jose Mourinho’s spell with the Blues, and believes McEachran will be a valuable asset to the Swans survival hopes this season.
“He’ll be brilliant for the Swansea supporters and they’ll get to witness one of the best talents this country’s got”, Rodgers said of McEachran.
He continued praising the midfielder’s qualities: “He’s a player who sees passes from the sky. He’s an incredible passer of the ball and I know the England set-up have very high hopes for him as well.”
Swansea have been impressive this season in their style of play but a lack of cutting edge and goals has meant they are still in danger of slipping down the table in the second half of the Premier League campaign.
The newly-promoted Welsh side have already signed Gylfi Sigurdsson, formerly of Reading, on loan from Hoffenheim as well as youngsters Darnel Situ and Rory Donnelly from Lens and Cliftonville respectively, in a bid to stay in England’s top tier for next season.
