Manchester City will be hoping to regain sole possession of first place in the Premier League when they travel to Wigan on Monday night.
The Citizens will be missing the suspended Vincent Kompany, while Yaya and Kolo Toure are at the African Cup of Nations. Nigel de Jong should continue to deputise for Yaya Toure in the centre of City’s midfield, but Roberto Mancini must decide how to rearrange his backline in Kompany’s absence.
The Italian could decide to play Micah Richards in central defence and start Pablo Zabaleta at right back. Stefan Savic is also in contention after starting against Liverpool in the Carling Cup.
City should welcome back David Silva, however, after the Spaniard missed the Carling Cup encounter with Liverpool with an ankle injury. Balotelli, who also has an ankle injury, is a doubt.
Wigan may recall winger Albert Crusat, after the Spaniard recovered from a back injury. The Latics will be missing Mohamed Diame, who is in the Senegal squad at the African Cup of Nations. Ben Watson is likely to play a bigger role in Diame’s absence.
