Third Age have announced that their Annual Fun Run is back again by popular demand.
It will be held in Malahide Castle on Saturday 22nd September 2012. The run will commence at the car park opposite the Castle at 11am sharp. Registration will take place from 10am in the Third Age tent in the car park. Like last year, we will hope for a sunny morning around the castle, perfect for soaking up the beautiful scenic route of the demesne. The run is open to all ages and abilities and you can walk, jog or run. This year we have recruited support from Operation Transformation’s Dr Eva Orsmond who will be aiming to beat her time.
As 2012 is the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations we have introduced a new category of prizes for the 1st team of 3 generations over the finish line. So we are asking families with 3 generations to dust off the runners and take part.
The race which is currently in its 2nd year was established to raise much needed funds for Third Age Senior Help Line, a national phone helpline for older people provided by trained older volunteers. Many of our callers live alone, can feel isolated and really value talking to someone their own age. The service is manned by older volunteers and operates for 12 hours every day, 365 days a year, including Christmas day. Last year the Senior Helpline took calls from over 10,000 older people and the service needs support and help now more than ever.
To register online now go to www.runireland.ie/thirdage-5k-run and avail of our special early bird rate of €15.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the day!
