Three men appear in court over murder of Michaela Harte

The Three men held in connection with the murder of Micheala McAreavey have been charged this afternoon.

Avinash Treebhoowoon 29, and Raj Theekoy, 33, have been charged with the 27 year olds murder, while a third man, Sandip Moneea, 41, has been charged with conspiracy to murder.

All three are from Mauritius and are employees of the Legends Hotel where the McAreaveys were staying. Two of the men are room attendants, while the third is a supervisor.

The three men have been remanded in custody until 19 January.

Ranjit Jokhoo,of the Mauritius Police said that at present it is too early to say how many people may have involved in Mrs McAreavey’s death. She was found in her hotel room by her husband on Monday after she has been missing for a few minutes, having gone up to their room after a meal.

Mr McAreavey found the door locked so he went to reception and a hotel employee followed him up to the room where they used an electronic key card to open the door.

A post mortem examination found that she had been strangled.
