Tyrone say Coney’s season might be finished

Updated: April 19, 2012

Kyle Coney needs a  groin operation and it is feared that the Tyrone star could face missing the rest of the season.

The now 22 year-old former underage star looked set for a big championship 2012 having performed brilliantly in the league this season for the Red Hand county.

He sustained the injury while playing his club Ardboe O’Donovan Rossa against Greencastle last weekend.

He will definitely miss Tyrone’s division 2 final against Kildare on Sunday week and could miss some, or possibly, all of the championship campaign.

In July 2008 he signed a two-year rookie contract with Australian Rules outfit the Sydney Swans.  He began a two year rookie contract with the Swans in November 2008, returning home for Christmas in December of that year.

Thereafter he decided to remain at home;  effectively choosing gaelic football over Aussie Rules.

Another recent Tyrone under 21 star; Ryan O’Neill ruptured his cruciate ligament over the weekend and will undergo surgery next Tuesday.
