Connacht rugby were made to work hard for their 30-17 victory over new Italian franchise Team Zebre in Parma this evening.
A first-half Try from Tiernan O’Halloran was followed by Denis Buckley and Mike McCarthy going over the whitewash in the second-half. All three tries were superbly converted by the boot of Miah Nikora and, thanks to three more penalty kicks from the Kiwi, the Irish province stuttered their way to a first win in this season’s RaboDirect Pro12.
Zebre kept in touch with tries from winger Samuele Pace and number Eight Andies Van Schalkwyk but their out-half Luciano Orqera was not as prolific in front of the posts.
Connacht saw out a nervy ending to a game where the visitors were largely unconvincing in many parts and which was marred by four sin-binnings.
