Galway football is reeling from the decision of two of the current squad to retire in the aftermath of last weeks opening round national league defeat to Monaghan.

Former All-Star and current joint captain Kieran Fitzgerald from Corofin is officially said to be retiring because of persistant injury and midfielder Niall Coleman is said to have left the panel because of work commitments. The news of both players leaving the panel increases speculation among Galway football supporters that all is not well in the squad since the appointment of new manager Tomas O’Flathartha last October. O’Flathartha replaced Joe Kernan who had was only in charge for one year after some disappointing results.

Galway are now favourites to get relegated from division one and they have to travel to Newry next Sunday for a league game against All Ireland finalists Down which will no doubt be very tough task.
