Wenger: Injury will make Wilshire a better player

Updated: October 1, 2012

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshire will play his first game in 14 months today as Arsenal U21 travel to West Bromich Albion U21. Kick off 2.00pm

The English man is beginning his comeback after over a year on the sidelines with ankle and knee injuries marked by a series of setbacks, and is joined in the team by Emmanuel Frimpong who is returning from a seven month cruciate layoff.

Wilshire last appeared for Arsenal in a pre-season friendly with New York Red Bulls but Arsene Wenger is confident that the 20 year old will come back a better player.

“He will be a better player because if you have this kind of injury at the age of 20 you will take off again and move forward normally,” Wenger told the club’s website.

“If you have the injury after the age of 25 it is different. At his age it is no problem.

“It’s difficult to predict [how long he needs to find his best form]. You want people to be patient. After three months of competition for sure he would be back. It takes a while to find the little burst again.”
