Zidane headbutt commemorated in 16ft high statue

Updated: September 26, 2012

Zinedine Zidane’s infamous headbutt on Marco Materazzi during the 2006 World Cup final has been commemorated in bronze and erected in Paris.

The 16 foot high statue has been installed outside The Pompidou Centre, which houses the Musée National d’Art Moderne in the French capital.

Zidane is regarded as one of the greatest players to play the game, winning the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and a host of league titles but his violent reaction to a supposed slur about his sister from Materazzi has become the defining moment of his career.
