After three poor years in Madrid, the rumors have returned that star Eden Hazard could come back to the club that made him a legend

Roman Abramovich has spoken optimistically about the chances that Eden Hazard will return to his club. According to outlet El Nacional, the Belgian winger will try to rejoin Chelsea by the start of next season.

There are high hopes of the deal going through with Abramovich ‘increasingly convinced’ of the star’s return to Stamford Bridge.

Hazard left for Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 for a price of around €100 million with plans of becoming the new Ronaldo figure at the club. Injuries and what seems to be a lack of motivation have really hampered his chances at the club.

In his first two seasons at the club, he could not manage more than 15 starts in the league, only getting 4 goals and five assists in total. This year has not started much better with him picking up a muscle injury on international duty.

Even if he is not sold for much, the club will want him off their wage bill. Hazard’s highly lucrative deal will last for another two years so it is best that they sell him now.

How would the deal work out?

If the deal happened, Madrid will want Chelsea to part with a reported €40 million. This would be a €60 million profit for the Blues but is it still worth their money.

There is another option on the cards for the London club. Rumors have circulated that Real Madrid would be interested in a swap deal where right-back Reece James would move to Spain.

This option would help the Galacticos with their defensive options. Their main starter Dani Carvajal has been hit with spells of injuries in recent years. James would be a great steal for the club if he can get over the language barrier.

Although the move is unlikely, it is of much interest and debate amongst the Chelsea fans.

On Sunday evening, Belgium defeated Portugal 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 but might be losing two of their best players to injury

Coming into the tournament, Belgium took the risk of bringing an unfit Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne recovering from a face injury.

The decision seemed perfect when De Bruyne showed his class assisting in the third game of the group stage. Hazard also fought back into the starting line-up and captained the side against Portugal.

The match against Ronaldo’s Portugal was a cagey and physical night in Seville. Eden’s brother Thorgan Hazard got the winning goal with a sweet strike in the first half.

Belgium boss, Roberto Martinez said after the game:

“It’s too early to say how they are doing. With Kevin, it’s the ankle, he couldn’t really turn in the second half. With Eden, it’s the muscle, but we have to wait for a diagnosis.”

How did they get injured?

The win was the end of the good news for Belgium as a foul on De Bruyne after half an hour forced him off minutes after halftime. Palhinha, in attempted to take the ball of the Belgian, his knee landed on De Bruyne’s ankle.

Later the substituted Belgian was seen with a large ice pack wrapped around his ankle. The 30-year-old was seen walking around on the pitch after the game, leaving the fans with some hope.

The same cannot be said for Hazard, while chasing down a Portuguese fullback, he pulled up with hamstring pain. He immediately signaled to come off and was replaced by Yannick Carrasco.

De Bruyne will be used to the recovery process having gotten surgery on his face after a block by Antonio Rudiger in the Champion’s League final.

“We’re going to need 48 hours to find out the extent of injuries. Kevin De Bruyne is the ankle, it was a really bad tackle. We don’t have a diagnosis from the medical department,” added Martinez

“Eden Hazard is more muscle. We will go back to Belgium tonight and have the scans tomorrow.”

Belgium will face Italy in the Euro 2020 quarterfinal at 20:00 on Friday 2nd June in Munich.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said that Belgian international and current Real Madrid midfielder Eden Hazard may miss the rest of the season.

The news comes after the central midfielder suffered yet another ankle injury in Madrid’s surprise La Liga defeat to Levante in La Liga last weekend. Hazard moved to Los Blancos from Chelsea last summer for 89 million pounds. However, he has only played to games since November and his season now looks in doubt following this injury. In fact Hazard has only recovered from an ankle injury which kept him out of the side. It is thought the injury picked up against Levante is to the same ankle. Real will host Manchester City on Wednesday in a crucial last 16 clash in the Champions League. It is an important week for Madrid, as they face Barcelona in La Liga this coming Sunday.

Speaking about Hazard’s injury at a press conference ahead of the game with Manchester City, Zidane said, He (Hazard) loves playing football and while I can’t tell you what is in his eyes, I can see he is not happy”. The former French midfielder continued, “I do not know if he will have to go through an operation. It is not my area and I don’t know if his season is over, but I hope not”. Zidane would not comment on whether the injury was handled correctly first time around. He said he wasn’t the right person to say what should or shouldn’t have been done. Furthermore, he said, “We are not happy about Hazard’s injury, it comes at a bad moment. He wanted to play and help us but now he is out again, which is sad of course”.

In relation to the game Zidane claimed that Guardiola is a better coach, he said “He has shown that over the years, at Barca, Bayern and now City. That’s my opinion. Some people can think other coaches are better but for me, he is the best”. He continued, “But it is Madrid against City, not Zidane against Guardiola. It will be a great game. We always want to play games like this and we will do our best to come away with a good result.” Real v Manchester City takes place at 8pm on Wednesday evening at the Bernabeu, the return leg takes place at the Etihad on March 17th.
