The defender, who has appeared 19 times for the first team on Merseyside, has made just one appearance this season at all levels – he played in a U23 clash against Everton in the Premier League 2.

Williams made his debut for the club in a 7-2 EFL Cup win over League One side Lincoln City and found himself in the starting lineup several times as a result of Liverpool’s injury crisis last season.

The 20-year-old came on as a late substitute against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League a month later and also played against FC Midtjylland after Fabinho had to go off injured.

Williams made six appearances in the Champions League throughout Liverpool’s run to the quarter-finals.

The youngster struggled at times while in the starting lineup but often grew into games.

Nat Phillips created an impressive partnership with him, given the circumstances, and the pair helped Liverpool to third place in the league, starting all five of their final league games of the season.

The move to Swansea is expected to allow the 20-year-old defender, who came through the academy at Liverpool, to build on his 2020-21 season and get more first-team minutes under his belt.

Former Liverpool star Rhian Brewster went on loan to Swansea City in 2019/20 when he was on the books, with his goals helping the Welsh side to the play-offs.

More recently, Harvey Elliott played 41 games for Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Championship, scoring seven and assisting 11 goals in that time.

Liverpool U23 player Sepp Van Den Berg is currently on loan at Preston North End, where he is enjoying a fruitful run of form.

With the return of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to the side factored in, coupled with the signing of Ibrahima Konate and the versatility of Fabinho, it seems like the best move for Williams’ career.

The centre-half, who is yet to appear in a competitive fixture for the Reds, will link up with the Blades for the remainder of the campaign.

Davies will work to help Sheffield United get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking under new manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

There will be no option for the Blades to buy Davies during their first season back in the Championship.

The Liverpool player had taken part in the side’s pre-season ahead of the current season.

The 26-year-old joined Liverpool in January amidst an injury crisis but has failed to play in any competitive fixtures for the side since his arrival.

The former Preston North End defender joined the then-Premier League champions on deadline day in January.

The Englishman signed a long-term deal with the side and was signed to bolster their ranks at centre-back.

Davies had spent three-and-a-half years playing in the Championship with Preston after breaking into the side before leaving and will bring that experience with him to Sheffield.

The defender was Preston’s Player of the Year for 2019.

Davies will join the ranks at Sheffield, which include Republic of Ireland defenders John Egan and Enda Stevens.

He will become the side’s first incoming transfer of the summer after an exodus took place following their relegation last season.

Five centre-backs have left the club this summer and Ethan Ampadu also returned to Chelsea following the end of his loan period, leaving the side in need of reinforcement at the back.

Davies potential season-long loan would leave Liverpool with six centre-backs on their backs, including Rhys Williams.

Liverpool face Burnley in their first home fixture of the new season on Saturday, August 21st at 12:30 pm.

The announcement comes after reports that Ben Davies is set to also be loaned to a Championship side.

The 19-year-old will join the side that had fellow Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott on loan last season in order to gain more experience at senior level.

Clarkson has made three appearances for the Reds at senior, including a start in the UEFA Champions League against FC Midtjylland in last season’s group stage.

The Lancashire native was on the bench four times throughout the club’s Champions League run last season.

He also played in the Premier League 2 14 times over the course of last season for the U23 side.

He recently signed a long-term contract with the club in December 2020 and is a graduate of the academy.

He will play at Blackburn Rovers under the tutelage of manager Tony Mowbray and his assistant, Mark Venus.

Elliott worked with the pair last season and racked up seven goals and 11 assists in an impressive campaign with the side.

The 18-year-old showcased his versatility while in Lancashire by playing in several positions for the side and excelling.

Clarkson will have the same opportunity as Elliott to show his parent club what he can do at a high level.

He will now aim to benefit from that relationship this season as he returns to his hometown with a view to playing regular first-team football.

The two clubs are close to an agreement that would see Davies get game-time for the season in the second tier of English football.

After being sacked just 2 months into his reign as APOEL manager back in January, Mick McCarthy would have been forgiven for hanging up his managerial boots after 30 years of almost constant management.

To the surprise of many, though, McCarthy was announced as Championship club Cardiff City’s manager just 3 weeks after his short stint in Cyprus.

The reaction to his hiring was mixed to say the least, particularly after his previous venture.

However, he’s proved to be more than a shrewd appointment so far.

Since taking over, McCarthy has completely transformed the clubs season from being lower bottom half to potential promotion challengers.

It was a special occasion for McCarthy tonight as he took charge of his 1,000^th match as a manager.

His side played out a scoreless draw against Huddersfield Town to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games, an almost unprecedented record at Championship level.

In truth, they were probably lucky to come away with the draw in the end. Huddersfield enjoyed the majority of the possession in the match and were even rewarded a penalty in the 73^rd minute.

20-year-old Aaron Rowe was brought down in the box which resulted in the penalty. Yaya Sanogo – on what was his full debut – stepped up to take it but agonisingly shot wide to keep the match scoreless.

Both teams had their chances thereafter but neither could score a decisive goal, the match finished 0-0.

“It was a really tough game that we didn’t play particularly well in,” McCarthy honestly said.

“We’ve all had a hectic schedule but the lads have been different class and put some shifts in.

“If you can’t win it, don’t get beaten – that’s my view.

“I know they’ve missed a penalty, well, tough luck on them. Other than that we were pretty solid.”
