CLICK HERE FOR LIVE SCORES ON MAYO V ROSCOMMON

The match will throw in at 19:30 on Wednesday, 21st July in McHale Park, Mayo.

The home side, Mayo, had to beat reigning champions Galway on penalties to progress to the final. The game was decided through some excellent spot taking and a great save by the Mayo keeper.

Jack McMahon in Mayo’s corner forward position proved to be an important part of their win against Galway. He is a strong place kicker but also has a quick burst of pace in open play.

Roscommon needed to overcome a tough Sligo team to reach the final. It was a high scoring thrilling affair where a mounted Sligo comeback was not enough to break down Roscommon.

In that game, corner forward James Fitzgerald was the difference, scoring 2-02. He will need to be on form again for Roscommon to bring home the provisional championship.

These two faced each other in the 2018 final which Mayo easily came out on top of that time.

Predicted Starting 15

Mayo

Roscommon

Betting

Mayo have been given the advantage in this game with odds of 8/13 to win.

U20’s matches have a knack for taking games to extra time and the odds of another draw are 15/2.

Roscommon are underdogs but have a chance with odds of 13/8 to grab the title.

Predicted Score

Underage Connacht football has always been between Mayo and Galway. Now that Mayo has dispatched the Tribesmen, this is their competition to lose.

Roscommon are happy to be at the final after beating Sligo not too comfortable. Although this is an exciting young team, it is hard to see them overcoming Mayo.

Expect Mayo to lift the title with a seven point lead at the final whistle.

PREVIEW

Throw in for this match will be at 19:30 on Thursday, 15th July in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork. This match will be shown live on TG4.

We have not seen much of either side as this semifinal will be their first matches in the championship.

They last faced each other in the 2020 Munster final which Kerry ran out champions by five points. Both squads contain some of the same players that played that final in March last year and the Cork players will be looking for revenge.

The Kerry minor team has shown their class by reaching their first All-Ireland in three years after beating Roscommon well.

Cork has also been a title-winning team as they won the 2019 All-Ireland u21 final.

Kerry and Cork have grown to be big rivals as the two best teams in Munster, frequently facing each other in a final at every age level.

Betting

Cork, at home, are just about underdogs with odds to win at 6/5.

A draw in 60 minutes has odds of 15/2.

Kerry are given the edge in the bookies’ eyes with odds of 5/6 to win.

Score Prediction

Kerry come into this match as slight favourites to win. The winner of this match will also be expected to go on and win the Munster Championship.

This game will be tight and physical, but Kerry will come out on top, their creative forwards will make the difference. This could be Kerry’s most successful year with great teams at minor, senior, and now under 20s.

Expect the Kingdom to win by around three points to make it to the final.

    Preview

This Gaelic football game will throw in at 19:30 on Thursday, 15th July in Pairc Tailteann in Meath.

Meath had a tough start to the year with their manager leaving due to a row over senior players in June. This will be their first competitive game of the year as the luck of the draw got them to the semifinals.

Corner forward David Bell has been knocking on the door for the senior team and this could be his chance to be seen.

Dublin overpowered Wicklow in the quarter-finals by only four points to make it this far. The reigning Leinster champions were given a fright, but their class shone through.

As free-taker Fionn Murray has a big part to play in this game, he managed six points with four from play in their last match.

Starting 15

Meath

Dublin

Betting

Meath 15/8

Draw 15/2

Dublin 8/15

Score Prediction

With problems following them, it is hard to see Meath being fully ready for this match. Dublin has the games under their belt and that will make the difference in this game on Thursday.

Expect Dublin to leave as winners with at least a four-point lead.

Tipperary made it to the semifinals after banishing their curse of losing to Limerick. The South Tipp heavy side beat them by three-point with their fast inside forward line making the difference.

Clonmel’s Sean O’Connor is their star player along with Kehoe as the full forwards. Eleven of the team’s 16 points came from these two players.

Waterford showed their tenacity for goal scoring after beating Clare in the quarterfinal, scoring 4-05 in the game.

Full forward Tom O’Connell got a hattrick and a point that day dancing past the Clare defense. He should prove to be a handful for Tipperary on Thursday.

Eirgrid All-Ireland u20 Football Final

Saturday 19th December, Croke Park, Dublin

Galway 1-11 Dublin 0-13

Galway are this year’s Eirgrid u20 champions. Crucial scores either side of half time saw them build up a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. They were, however, forced to hold on in the final few minutes to see off a dogged Dublin side. The Tribesmen enjoyed the majority of possession but failed to convert territory into scores especially during the first half.

Donal Ó Fatharta’s side gained a measure of revenge for last year’s semi-final defeat to a Dublin side that contained five of the team that lost last year final at this grade to Cork. Both sides got their seasons underway on the 8th February and had numerous disruptions to their respective campaigns.

Dublin overcame Tyrone, while Galway defeated Kerry back in October to reach the 2020 decider. Both squads can be proud of their performances on a heavy December Croke Park sod.

The sides were evenly matched at the first water break with the scores tied at 0-4 apiece. A brace from both Tomo Culhane and Matthew Tierney accounted for the Galway scores. While Ciaran Archer, Lee Gannon, Mark Lavin and Brian O’Leary were on target for the Dubs.

Galway upped it a gear on the resumption and gained the momentum in the match. They outscored Dublin 0-4 v 0-1 in the run-up to the interval and took a 0-8 v 0-5 lead into the break. Tierney and Culhane added to their earlier efforts, while Matthew Cooley of Corofin also sent over a fine point. Luke Swan mustered up Dublin’s only score of the second quarter.

Half-time: Galway 0-08 Dublin 0-05

On the restart, Tomo Culhane added another point to his tally and Brian O’Leary responded for the Dubs. The games only goal came after a fine burst from Matthew Tierney ended with a neat hand pass across goal to Culhane. The Salthill forward drilled home a low shot which took a deflection off a Dublin defender and flew past Josh O’Neill in the Dublin goal.

That score gave Galway a six-point lead, 1-09 to 0-6. At this stage, it looks like the Tribesmen might cruise to an easy victory. However, Tom Gray’s men showed their mettle to claw their way back into the match. Three points on the spin from Mark Lavin, Lorcan O’Dell and Adam Fearon saw Dublin close the gap to three points prior to the second water break.

The final quarter of the game saw Dublin continue to eat into the Galway lead. Lavin and O’Dell cut the gap to the minimum before Mattew Tierney sent over a free from distance to send Galway into injury time with a two-point lead. Adam Fearon reduced the arrears again as Dublin pushed for a late equaliser. Galway survived a late scare when Josh Bannon was somewhat over-theatrical in falling to the floor under Galway pressure. Referee Paul Faloon waved away Dublin appeals and Galway clung on for a hard-fought win.

Full-time: Galway 1-11 Dublin 0-13

Eirgrid All-Ireland u20 Football semi-final

Saturday 17th October, Gaelic Grounds, Limerick

Galway 1-15 Kerry 1-10

Both squads had to contend with Covid related setbacks in the build up to the game. Earlier this week Galway manager Donal Ó Fatharta stood down the three players from newly crowned county champions Moycullen due to a local outbreak.

On Friday Kerry manger John Sugrue had to make four late changes to his squad when there was a confirmed case in their squad with three additional players deemed close contacts.

Kerry started the brighter of the two sides. Eddie Horan got them off to a good start with a brace of points. Galway responded with a point from Oisin Gormally followed by a goal from Cian Monaghan. The Oughterard man finished well after being set up by his club mate Matthew Tierney. However, Galway would go without another score from play for the next thirty minutes.

The Kingdom responded to the Galway goal well, points from Eddie Horan again, Paul Walsh and Sean Keane brought the sides level before Ruaidhrí Ó’Beaglaoich found the net from a Deividas Uosis free kick. At their stage Kerry led by four points and the looked in control. Shortly before the break Ó’Beaglaoich almost added a second major. A fisted effort bounced across the goalmouth before clipping the far post.

Pointed frees from Matthew Tierney and Matthew Cooley kept Galway in touch before the break.

Half-time: Kerry 1-07 Galway 1-05

On the restart Tierney brought his side level with a pointed mark, followed shortly after by a free which restored parity. Another pointed Tierney free gave Galway their fifth point in a row and also put them back in front again. Dylan Geaney stopped the Galway momentum with a superb point from almost forty yards out.

Tierney and Uosis the exchanged pointed frees as the sides were tied 1-09 apiece at the second water break. The final quarter was dominated by the young Tribesmen as they outscored the Kingdom by 0-6 to 0-1 between the restart and the final whistle. A superb score from Cian Monahan gave Galway a lead the wouldn’t relinquish. A Luke Brosnan black card saw Kerry finish out the game a man shy. Galway pressed home their numerical advantage with a brace from Matthew Cooley and a point from man of the match Cian Hernon. A long range free from Uosis cut the gap to three points again as we approached full-time. Two further points in additional time from substitute Nathan Grainger and a Paul Kelly free sealed a five point win for the westerners.

Full-time: Galway 1-15 Kerry 1-10

Scorers: Galway – Matthew Tierney 0-6 (5f,1m), Matthew Cooley 0-4 (3f), Cian Monahan 1-1, Cian Hernon 0-1, Oisin Gormally 0-1, Nathan Grainger 0-1, Patrick Kelly 0-1 (1f). Kerry – Eddie Horan 0-3, Ruaidhaí Ó Beaglaoich 1-0, Deividas Uosis 0-3 (2f, 1 45′), Paul Walsh 0-2, Daniel Geaney 0-1.
