]]>Leeds v Crystal Palace will kick-off at 20:15 tonight, Tuesday 30th November in Elland Road. Referee Kevin Friend will take charge of the tie.
Bielsa will finally be happy when he saw his star striker Patrick Bamford return to training this weekend. The English forward is also accompanied by Luke Ayling as Robin Koch is the only player remaining on the injury list.
Leeds still sits just above the relegation zone after drawing against Brighton at the weekend. The Whites will soon be in dire need of their third win of the season and Bielsa will be looking for it tonight.
Crystal Palace has become a surprising force in the Premier League this year since Patrick Viera was named manager. They sit in 11th place only four points off the sixth spot but also only four points above 17th place Leeds.
At the weekend, they lost out to Steven Gerrards Aston Villa team 2-1. Despite this loss, they are undefeated in the seven other matches, scoring nine goals in five games. Youngster Conor Gallagher has proven to be their shining light this year and an early contender for Young Player of the Year.
This has been a tense and even matchup over the last decade. They have faced each other eight times between the Premier League and Championship since 2010. Leeds United has won four of the ties, while two games have ended in draws and Crystal Palace won two.
Last season the two teams split the points with a win at home each. They last played in February where the Whites won 2-0.

Home advantage will play a big part in this fixture as the Elland Road faithful will drive on a nearly full-strength team. For one of the first times this season, Marcelo Bielsa will have a full team to pick from and it will show in their energy and speed.
Expect this game to end 3-2 to Leeds United.

]]>Brighton v Leeds United will kick off at 17:30 on Saturday 27th November in the American Express Community Stadium. Referee Craig Pawson will take charge of the tie.
The match will also be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League Ireland.
Graham Potters’ Brighton side began the season as a surprise package but form has not been on their side recently. They are now seven games without a win but they have also managed five draws in that time.
Last week they lost 2-0 away to Aston Villa and now they lie in ninth place, level on points with Man United. They will now be without their striker, Danny Welbeck so Potter will likely rely on Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard for goals.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are suffering from second-season syndrome as the team sits in 17th place only two points in the clear. The Argentine will need to change his team’s fortunes in the next three games before they go into a very challenging Christmas period.
Last week, a weakened side put it up to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham team but lost 2-1. On Saturday, they will again rely heavily on Daniel James and Kalvin Phillips as they wait for stars to return from injury.
This has become a common fixture in the last decade between the Premier League and Championship. Brighton has been the stronger of the two teams having won 10 of the 14 games. Two games have ended in draws and the Whites have been victorious twice.
The Seagulls did the double over Leeds last season keeping a clean sheet in both games, including a 2-0 win at home in May.

Although Bielsa’s side has struggled a lot at getting results in the league this year, they have managed to make each game a challenge for their opponents. This will be a very close affair, only decided by the smallest of margins.
Expect the game to end 2-1 to Brighton with the home advantage playing a factor.

The 38-year-old currently plies his trade for Boston United in the lower American leagues. Back in 2012, Green spent two years as a main player in the Leeds United team. He made 41 appearances in League One and Championship scoring four goals. He even managed to captain the team for one game before leaving in 2014.
The former traveling player lined out for 12 clubs in his career including a season-long loan spell at Leeds. In 2005, Miller was sent out from Manchester United to the Championship side for more game time.
The midfielder made 28 appearances and scored one goal during this spell. He would later move onto Sunderland and make 21 appearances for the Ireland national team.
In 1995, Harte took the leap across the Irish sea when he moved from Home Farm to Leeds United. The Drogheda man spent eight years in Yorkshire, becoming a prolific left-back for them, often taking their penalties and free kicks.
After well over 200 appearances and 28 goals, Leeds were surprisingly relegated from the Premier League in 2004. Harte would then move further abroad as he spent three years in Spain with Levante.
One of Leeds’ crowning glories is their impressive youth academy. Ireland and Manchester United’s legendary left-back started out his long career at the Whites’ famed academy.
Back in the early ’80s Irwin joined the club and made over 70 appearances in the old Second Division before moving to Oldham FC IN 1986.
One of Ireland’s greatest ever strikers and Irish players to play in England, Keane, was shown a lifeline by Leeds in his early career. After an ill-fated move to Inter Milan in 2000, the Whites’ offered him a loan spell and subsequent permanent deal. In 18 months he scored 13 league goals before making the biggest move of his career to Tottenham Hotspur.
With 68 goals, Keane would later become Irelands leading scorer also making 148 appearances.

Giles was more certainly the finest of the Irish players to tog out for Leeds United. His 12-year spell began after he was frozen out of Manchester United. As he promised, Giles would ‘haunt’ Busby for his decisions.
Under Don Revie, he made 383 league appearances, scoring 88 goals and becoming one of the most feared midfielders in the English top-flight. He won League and Cup titles before leaving for West Brom in 1975.
Giles would also make 59 appearances for the Boys in Green, both as a player and a player-manager.

Leeds United pulled off their second victory of the season last week after beating rock-bottom Norwich city 2-1. Recent games have found the Whites sitting in 17th place only three points ahead of the relegation zone.
In their ten matches this season, they have an average possession of 58.4% but they really need to turn their ball retention into goals.
Leicester have had a troublesome few weeks in the league and in Europe. They are without a win in their last three games including losing to Arsenal and drawing with Brighton & Hove Albion.
After ten matches, they are in the bottom half of the table and have relied heavily on their Danish keeper. So far this season Kasper Schmeichel is ranked second in the league for saves per game (3.5).
This has been a tight, tense affair in recent years. In their last 12 meetings between the Premier League, Championship and Cups, Leicester have won six times, Leeds United have won three times and there have been three draws.
Last season, both teams shared a win each away from home including a 3-1 victory for Leeds in January.

]]>The post Leeds transfer update: Bielsa looking for Swift and de Tomas appeared first on SportsNewsIreland.
]]>Bielsa was happy to bring home three points after the team’s win at the weekend. Leeds beat rock-bottom side Norwich City on Halloween afternoon.
Ireland’s Andrew Omobamidele got a comeback goal for the Canary’s but Raphinha and Rodrigo strikes were enough for the Whites to clinch a victory. This win now puts the club in 17th place level on points with Watford and Aston Villa.
With only two wins in ten matches, most Leeds fans will not be happy with their start of the season. Now the club will look for new signings in the winter transfer window to bolster their squad and fix their problems.
Leeds will join a transfer battle with Tottenham Hotspur for Espanyol forward Raul de Thomas. The 27-year-old striker has made a big impression in La Liga in the last few seasons.
He has scored six goals and got two assists in 11 appearances so far this season. He has an estimated transfer value of just under €15 million so he could prove to be a good deal for the Yorkshire club.
Leeds’ main man Patrick Bamford spent much of the last few months on the injury table. This problem has taught Bielsa an important lesson in Premier League management. The Spaniard relied too heavily on Bamford last season and has not found a suitable replacement for him.

Bielsa is also looking to improve his midfield line. The club has shown interest in signing Reading’s talismanic central midfielder Swift.
They will need to fight with Brentford and Newcastle for the Englishman’s signature. The 26-year-old has an estimated transfer value of just over €4 million but probably will go for more in January.
He has found the net eight times and provided six assists in 15 appearances in the Championship this year.
Swift would be a very welcome addition to Bielsa’s team, giving a much-needed rest to Dallas, Klich, and Rodrigo.

The match will also be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League Ireland with the build-up beginning at 13:30.
Norwich is rock bottom of the Premier League and has shown little life of securing any points. After six straight losses, they managed two draws on the bounce against Burnley and Brighton. They have since gone on to lose embarrassingly 7-0 to Chelsea in Stamford Bridge.
One of the Canaries’ biggest problems is their lack of goal threat. In nine games, their main striker Teemu Pukki has scored two goals and no one else on the team has found the back of the net.
Leeds United, on the other hand, has been rather unfortunate this season through tight losses and injury problems. They currently sit one place above the drop zone but with a three-point buffer for their safety.
Now with the side hoping to have Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips back in their matchday squads, this will be a must-win game for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
This fixture has been very evenly matched in recent years with these two sides facing off in only Championship and EFL Cup football. In their last 11 meetings, Norwich and Leeds have both won three games while five games ended in draws.
Their last match against each other was back in 2019 where Norwich won 3-1 in Elland Road with very different squads to the ones they have today.

The Gunners have been on a decent run in the last two months, they are now unbeaten in seven games with wins over Tottenham and Aston Villa. This winning form began in this competition when they trashed a replacement West Brom team in August.
They reached the fourth round of the EFL Cup after they beat League One side Wimbledon 3-0 at home. In two games, the London Reds have scored nine goals and conceded none so they will want to keep that going tonight.
Leeds have not been as fortunate this season. The Whites sit in 17th place with only one win in the league.
The EFL Cup now gives the club a new opportunity for victories. After beating Crewe Alexandra 3-0 at home, they faced Fulham in Craven Cottage. That game went to penalties and the young goalkeeper became their hero.
In the last 10 years, Leeds United have failed to be the winning team in this fixture. After six games, Arsenal have won four games while two games have ended in draws. These sides are yet to face each other in the league this season but last year Arsenal won this game in a thrilling 4-2.

]]>The post Leeds injury update: Phillips to return this week appeared first on SportsNewsIreland.
]]>The Whites left it late before claiming a point on Saturday. As they faced Wolves in Round Nine of the league, South Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan scored first for the Birmingham side.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men were rescued by a teenage substitute in the dying moments of stoppage time. The 19-year-old Joe Gelhardt was fouled in the penalty area as forward Rodrigo cooly dispatched the penalty.
They managed to claim the draw without some of their star players such as Kalvin Phillips, Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling, and Patrick Bamford. With the team preparing for a cup match midweek, the club will be looking for some positive news on the injury table.
Phillips has missed out on Premier League duty since their win over Watford earlier this month. The Leeds manager announced that the midfielder is not yet up to full match fitness.
He appeared on the bench against Wolves but was given no minutes. This midweek fixture may be the perfect time for Phillips to find his footing.
The German defender has been plagued with injuries, barely appearing this season and becoming a mainstay on the Leeds injury table. After getting surgery on his hip, he has seen himself on the recovery table since the opening weekend.
Bielsa told the media that Koch will need another month of rehab before he can begin playing football again.
Ayling also required surgery last month due to a knock in their draw with Newcastle. Now the English right-back is has been recovering well but Bielsa says he will miss out on at least another week of football.
Bamford’s knock, also against Newcastle, has been one of Leeds’ biggest worries this year. The manager confirmed that he will miss the tie against Arsenal but could return in time for the weekend game against Norwich.
This summer’s headline signing from Barcelona was struck down by a muscular injury recently. He only missed out on a week of fixtures and is likely to return to the pitch in time for the tie against Norwich on Halloween.
The Brazilian winger is Leeds’ biggest problem of late. On a struggling side, the tricky dribbler has been a bright spark while also shining for his national side.
A rough challenge by Roman Saiss before the hour-mark at the weekend forced the player off the pitch. Many fans were left outraged that the Wolves defender was not shown a red card for the tackle but now their focus will return to Raphinha’s recovery.
Bielsa was unable to give an update on the injury after the game but the player said on social media:
“So I’m back soon. Thank you all for the messages and concern of all.”

Leeds have had many problems this year; their injury concerns have been compounded with a lack of threat in front of goal. They currently rank in 15th for goals scored this season with less than a goal per game (0.9).
The side now sits in 17th place, three points off the relegation zone after their loss away to Southampton. The Whites’ only bright hope this year has been their 21-year-old keeper Ilan Meslier.
Wolves are finally back to form with the help of their talismanic forward Raul Jiminez. They sit in 10th place having not lost in their last four away games.
Last week they made the comeback of the season after coming back from 2-0 to win away to Aston Villa with goals in the 80th, 85th, and 90+5 minutes. This hunger and passion could prove important again this week.
Both teams have followed very similar paths in recent years after being promoted after years of obscurity in the Championship. Their exciting teams have shown frailties this year and they will be needing three points from this game.
In their last 13 meetings stretching back to 2010, Wolves have won seven and Leeds have won five. Last season, Wolves won both ties 1-0, home and away.

Southampton is a club on the verge of trouble, although they surprised some in the early games, they are still without a win. Problems have been getting worse with their captain James Ward-Prowse now suspended for three games due to a red-card challenge on Jorginho against Chelsea.
Manager Ralph Hasenhutl will need to reinvigorate his squad or their two-game losing streak will grow.
This international break has brought good and bad news to the white side of Yorkshire. Days after their first win of the season, the squad was split up with some players flying to other ends of the world.
A few Leeds talents have shown their quality with winger Raphinha exciting for the Samba squad but leader Kalvin Phillips also picking up an injury while in England training.
