Peter Creedon has been appointed the new senior football manager of the Tipperary Ladies following his ratification at the October County Board meeting on Monday night last October 4th.

Creedon succeeds Declan Carr in the role, who stepped down last month after his side survived relegation to the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship this year.

Tipperary lost their relegation semi-final to Kerry after a poor group stage in the All-Ireland Senior Championship but a seven-goal showing against Tyrone in Kinnegad sealed their senior status for 2022.

Creedon had previously been in charge of the county’s men’s senior football team from 2012 to 2015 and was also the manager of Laois in 2017.

The Roscraberry native was involved with the Tipperary minor and U21 football teams before taking the reins at a senior side.

Creedon managed the two sides for five years from 2003-2008 and has also been the head coach at clubs Cahir and Roscraberry.

He has also been involved with the Tipperary Ladies Football County Underage teams over the last number of years.

Currently principal of Colaiste Dun Iascaigh in Cahir, Peter Creedon has also served as principal of St. Ailbe’s in Tipperary town.

Speaking after his ratification on Monday evening last, he said he felt it was an honour and privilege to manage the team and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

In an exclusive interview with CK Streaming moments after his appointment was formalised, school principal Creedon said: “I suppose it’s something that, at the start of the year, I wouldn’t have expected to be doing, but when I was asked to consider it and put my thoughts around it, it looked like something that could be a very exciting project.

“Look, it was great to have had the honour of managing the Tipp senior men’s [team] for four or five years and if I’ve half as good a time with the girls as I had with the boys, it’ll be great.”

Cork LGFA have announced that they have appointed Shane Ronayne as their new senior ladies football manager on a three-year term.

The Mitchelstown native was appointed at a county board meeting at Nemo Rangers tonight after he had been recommended by a five-person sub-committee tasked with identifying the next boss.

He succeeds Ephie Fitzgerald in the role after the 60-year-old’s six-year tenure came to an end following the side’s All-Ireland exit at the hands of eventual winners Meath.

Ronayne was most recently in charge of the Waterford men’s senior footballers in 2021 but left the job on Friday after just one season in the role.

His Waterford side won only once this season, beating Wexford by one point in a National Football League Division Four South clash.

However, the Deise failed to earn promotion, falling to Antrim at the final hurdle, and were knocked out of the Munster and All-Ireland Senior Football Championships after just one game.

Ronayne’s side were brushed aside by Billy Lee’s Limerick at the provincial quarter-final stage in a one-sided clash that saw the Treaty County put 4-18 past the visitors in the Gaelic Grounds.

However, the inter-county manager has had lots of success in his time coaching ladies football.

Previous to the Waterford job, Ronayne had guided Tipperary to four National League titles in as many years and two All-Ireland intermediate crowns in 2017 and 2019.

He also led Cork side Mourneabbey to back-to-back All-Ireland titles in this time, winning the club accolades in 2018 and 2019.

A statement by Cork LGFA reads: “Following a meeting of Cork LGFA tonight, the full executive and board have ratified Shane Ronayne as Cork Senior Football manager. He was ratified for a term of 3 years.

“We wish Shane, his background team and players the very best of luck. We wish to thank all those who took part in the selection process.

“And to Ephie Fitzgerald & his background team, we thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the Cork Senior team over the past 6 years.”

Mayo camogie marked their first season of adult camogie after a lengthy absence with a 3-8 to 1-12 victory over Tyrone to claim the Nancy Murray Cup at Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada.

Tyrone’s camogie team missed out on silverware for the county while their Men’s football side went one step closer to the Sam Maguire.

The goals were crucial with two of them coming from Ciara Delaney, having been set up by player of the match Áine Charlton. Captain Helen O’Malley also raised a green flag but Tyrone almost pulled off a spectacular comeback, getting to within one of the westerners having trailed by 11 but they just could not get over the line.

Mayo led by 2-6 to 0-4 at half-time thanks to Delaney and O’Malley’s majors, the latter part of a run of 1-5 without reply as Tyrone failed to score in the second quarter. When Delaney finished after another strong run by Charlton 15 seconds after the restart, it seemed like curtains.

But with Reagan Fay in inspired form and bringing her tally to eight points, the Red Hand women rallied. Niamh McNulty’s goal after an excellent catch was a real boost but when it seemed like momentum was in their favour, Mayo dug deep and Orla Hession pointed to leave Tyrone needing a goal that they couldn’t get.

Meanwhile, champions Armagh, who beat Clare in their semi-final by 2-13 to 1-6 on Saturday, will play Wexford in the All-Ireland premier junior final at Croke Park on September 12, as a result of the Yellowbellies’ 3-18 to 0-8 victory over Roscommon.

Roscommon had two early chances but two wides resulted and once Wexford got to grips with the excellent opposition sweeper, Rachel Fitzmaurice by playing the wings, they began to make hay.

Megan Cullen got an eighth-minute goal and it was 1-2 to 0-0 at the water break. On the resumption, all the Wexford inside forwards, Emma Tompkins, Emma Codd and Lisa Firman registered points and  Ailis Neville scored to make it 2-7 to 0-1 at half-time.

The Roscommon point came from a long-distance free by Shauna Fallon just before the short whistle.

The Connacht side were awarded a penalty early in the second half but Fallon’s shot was too central and goalkeeper Lara O’Shea was able to make the stop.

With that, any hope of a spectacular comeback dissipated.

When Roscommon removed Fitzmaurice from her sweeping role as they needed to chase the game, it opened space and Wexford profited. Chloe Cashe, who had been kept to a point in the first half, got a goal at the end of an excellent move on 41 minutes and finished with 1-8.

Fitzmaurice and Niamh Watson tried hard for Roscommon but it was all about Wexford, Clodagh Jackman, Aideen Brennan, Cashe, Neville and Cullen among those to shine.

Elsewhere, the talented Áine Magill completed 24 hours she won’t forget in a hurry as she played for Antrim in the intermediate semi-final against Galway and then against Laois in the Tesco All-Ireland B semi final.

She up a star outing for Antrim in their win over Galway by scoring 1-3 from midfield as the Saffrons’ minors as they came out on top of a thriller against Laois by 3-19 to 3-12 to reach the Tesco All-Ireland B final.

Antrim will face Offaly in the final, who defeated Derry by 4-12 to 1-8 in the other semi-final.

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) has confirmed a new format for the All-Ireland Championship with 12 counties to take part in the senior championship.

It is expected that the round Robin format will compromise of four groups of three teams at senior level. The winners of each group will the go into the All-Ireland semi-final stage. There are four seeded teams, All-Ireland Champions Dublin, Galway, Cork and Mayo. Because they are seeded these means these teams will be kept apart until the semi- final stages. The remaining 8 counties will be placed in a group, which will be done by an open draw on June 30th.

In addition to this the format for the intermediate ladies football championship is similar. 13 teams will be playing in this grade, meaning of course an odd group. It will mean one group of four and three groups of three.

At Junior level, the six counties will be split into two groups of three. Four semi finals will be up for grabs, the top two in each group. The LGFA are hoping to hold the championship over 7 weekends. However, two gap weekends will be included, after the group games and before the finals.

The times, dates and venues will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
