The Limerick SHC final goes ahead this weekend with the surprise climactic match up of Kilmallock and Patrickswell

The SHC final throws in at 15:45 on Sunday, 24th October in the TUS Gaelic Grounds. Referee Eamon Stapleton will take charge of the tie.

The match will be shown live on the TG4 show GAA BEO with coverage starting at 15:15 on Sunday.

Kilmallock took the long route to reach this final. After they finished in second place to Na Piarsaigh in the group, narrowly beating out Ballybrown, the south sided team beat ‘A’ final runners up South Liberties.

Last week the team needed a very spirited and powerful display to knock out Doon with a scoreline of 4-20 to 2-16.

Freetaker Michael Houlihan will be an important part of the scores in this final. He will also need help from the forward partnership of Oisin O’Reilly and Graeme Mulcahy in order to claim silverware.

Patrickswell followed a similar path to their opponents after finishing second in the group behind Doon. Subsequent victories against ‘A’ final winners Adare and favorites Na Piarsaigh go them to the big stage.

That win against the current titleholders was very impressive, grinding out a five-point lead in the later stages of the match to win.

Tobar Padraig is a club made of a few of Limerick’s new golden generation and they will be hungry for another trophy.

Limerick SHC final Probable Starting Teams

Kilmallock

B Hennessy; L English, M O’Loughlin, D Joy; P O’Loughlin, C O’Connor, P O’Brien; R Hanley, A Costello; M Houlihan, O O’Reilly, D Woulfe; G Mulcahy, G O’Mahony, K O’Donnell.

Patrickswell

B Murray; S O’Brien, N Foley, J Fynn; T Nolan, D Byrnes, J Considine; C Carroll, M Carmody; T O’Brien, C Lynch, J Gillane; A Gillane, J Kelleher, J Kirby.

Match Betting

Kilmallock to Win: 15/8

Draw: 9/1

Patrickswell: 1/2

Score Prediction

On Sunday we will find out if Ciaran O’Connor and his defense will be enough to keep out Cian Lynch and the Gillane brothers. Although Patrickswell is the clear favorite going into the tie, this game will not be a landslide or won with any great ease.

Expect Patrickswell to win the final by around three points.

We have reached the climax of the Limerick A hurling season as surprise contenders South Liberties take on Adare in the promotion final

This enthralling promotion final will throw-in at 16:00 on Saturday, 16th October in the Kilmallock GAA. Johnny Murphy is the referee that has been left in charge of the game.

Adare made it to this final after they finished top of their group that contained Kildimo Pallaskenry and Monaleen. Although they were pushed close against Pallaskenry, Adare finished strong in the group, thrashing Monaleen.

Unfortunately, they could not progress further into the Limerick SHC as they were knocked out by now finalists Patrickswell in a close 0-20 to 0-18.

Frees seem to be a strong part of their game as full forward Willie Griffin scored five of his seven points from place balls. Another creative outlet for the squad is their wing-forward Charlie McCarthy.

South Liberties followed a much similar path as they led a group with Garryspillane and Blackrock. Although they lost their first game of the season, a monumental thrashing of Blackrock let them continue on points difference.

Liberties pushed the A sides even closer as they lost out to Kilmallock in extra-time in a thrilling 1-33 to 5-17 game.

Barry and Anthony Nash are two players to watch on their side as they have proven to be strong goal threats for the team.

Promotion Final Probable Starting Teams

Adare

B. Curtin; D. Connolly, R. Connolly, D. Lyons; J. McSweeney, J. Fitzgibbon, J. Hannon; W. McNamara, D. O’Mahony; M. Keane, D. Hannon, C. McCarthy; M. Connolly, B. Griffin, B. O’Connor.

South Liberties

A. Nash; E.Quilty, M. OBrien, B. Nash; D. Garry, C. McSweeney, S. O’Neill; B. Ryan, J. Hickey; B. Cooney, D. O’Neill, B. Nash; K. Byrnes, M. Keane, B. Garry.

Score Prediction

Although South Liberties made a weaker start to the season, they will have a point to prove. The squad will be looking for redemption after their heartbreak last week.

Expect them to beat Adare in a hard, close tie by around three points.

We have reached the business end of the Limerick SHC as the four best hurling teams face off in the semi-finals

Both Limerick semi-finals will be streamed live by Limerick GAA TV, in conjunction with Sporting Limerick’s partner company, Stream Sport Ireland.

This year’s final four teams exactly match those from last year. Don and Na Piarsaigh were the two victors that ended up contesting the final.

Last year’s finalists also qualified automatically for the penultimate round after they finished top of their groups in the previous stage. Instead, Kilmallock and Patrickswell took a much tougher route to the semis.

Kilmallock only beat South Liberties by four points in a high-scoring, enthralling encounter in the Gaelic Grounds last Sunday. The game ended with an astonishing scoreline of 1-33 to 5-17 to Kilmallock.

Patrickswell’s match was not as eventful but even higher as they edged out Adare by 0-20 to 0-18.

It will be interesting to see if the extra week of hurling will have tired the teams out or will it have given them some much-needed courage.

Here is all the information you will need to know about Wednesday’s Munster minor football quarterfinal between Limerick and Tipperary

CLIKC FOR LIVE SCORES FROM LIMERICK V TIPPERARY

The match will throw in at 19:30 on Wednesday, 21st July in the LIT Gaelic Grounds, Limerick.

This will be the first game of the championship for both counties. Either side could become a surprise package in the minor Munster championship with young, unseen players.

They have made a habit of facing each other in football at all levels with Tipperary coming narrowly out on top in both the senior and U20 championships.

Tipperary has produced some creative quality in the full forward line and expect more of that with Ballina’s Charlie King. He is very short in stature but makes up for it in pace and guile.

Limerick has a strong Monaleen contingent in their squad. Their captain Darragh Murray is the best of them and will be one to watch in this game and for years to come.

Minor County Panels / Starting 15

Limerick Starting 15

MacInnes; M. Kilbridge, J. Behan, D. Clifford; L. Murphy, A. Neville, S. Kiely; J. Somers, D. Murray; M. Nolan, E. Rigter, O. O’Farrell; C. O’Duinn, R. Cronin, R. Quirke.

Tipperary Squad

Tom Bourke (JK Brackens), Senan Butler (Kilsheelan Kilcash), Sean Cagney (Clonmel Óg), Sean Cannon (Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams), Jake Canny (Bohrlahan Dualla), Thomas Charles (Clonmel Commercials), Eoin Craddock (Holycross-Ballycahill), Eoghan Doyle (Rockwell Rovers), Charlie English (Ballyporeen), Fionn Fitzgerald (Killenaule), Liam Hayes (Gortnahoe-Glengoole), Joe Higgins (Clonmel Commercials), Charlie King (Ballina), Alex Moloney (Durlas Óg), Paul Mullen (Drom & Inch), Paul McCahey (Loughmore-Castleiney), Darragh McVicker (Clonmel Óg), Conor Neville (Fethard), Niall O Connor (Clonmel Óg), Paddy O’ Keeffe (Moyle Rovers), Zac O Loughlin (Kilsheelan Kilcash), Sean O Meara (Grangemockler Ballyneale), Jack O Neill (Ardfinnan), Kian O Reilly (Clonmel Commercials), Diarmuid O Riordan (Newport), Brian Quinn (JK Brackens), Michael Ryan (Ballingarry), Shane Ryan (Clonmel Commercials), Tadhg Sheehan (Clonmel Commercials), Cian Smith (Clonmel Commercials), Darragh Spillane (Fethard).

Predicted Score

Although very little is known about these minor sides, it is clear that Limerick will want to get revenge for their older county men. This will again be another close affair between the rival teams.

Tipperary has managed to produce some great underage sides in recent years and expect this side to be no different. Tipp will use their confidence to win this tie on Wednesday.

The GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week has been announced with Limerick GAA earning four selections – the most in the side.

Kyle Hayes is in at left half-back after his stunning goal at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the 2021 Munster Senior Hurling Championship final.

The Kildimo-Pallaskenry player started his run from the halfway line and finished off an electrifying move by firing the ball past Barry Hogan into the Tipperary net.

Cian Lynch joins him in the side, taking his place as the right-sided midfielder.

His performance on Sunday against Tipperary was fantastic and he composed the Limerick orchestra perfectly, leading the side’s second-half revival to secure a dominant win over their Munster rivals.

Dan McCormack did well against Lynch at times but could not contain the Limerick talisman who earned the Man of the Match in the Munster final.

Peter Casey and Seamus Flanagan are the other two Limerick GAA players that make the XV.

The pair were firing on all cylinders and were lethal when they got a hold of the sliotar.

Peter Casey tallied up five points for his side while Seamus Flanagan got three and nabbed a goal too, pouncing on a loose ball after Hogan denied Limerick’s Aaron Gillane.

Leinster Champions Kilkenny and Brian Lohan’s Clare have two players on the side each after their wins at the weekend.

Wexford GAA also have two players in the side following their All-Ireland exit at the hands of Clare.

Dublin, Waterford, Laois, Tipperary and Westmeath all have one player on the side.

GAA.ie Hurling Team Of The Week

Alan Nolan (Dublin); Rory Hayes (Clare), Huw Lawlor (Kilkenny), Shane Reck (Wexford); Calum Lyons (Waterford), James Maher (Kilkenny), Kyle Hayes (Limerick); Cian Lynch (Limerick), Paddy Purcell (Laois); Ryan Taylor (Clare), Jason Forde (Tipperary), Robbie Greville (Westmeath); Peter Casey (Limerick), Seamus Flanagan (Limerick), Cathal Dunbar (Wexford).

Tipperary and Limerick will contest the 2021 Munster Senior Hurling Championship (Munster SHC) Final on Sunday, July 18th at 4:15 pm.

The Munster SHC climax will be held in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and 7,000 spectators will be allowed to attend.

But how can you become one of the 7,000 to watch either Tipperary or Limerick lift the Mick Mackey Cup this weekend?

Tipperary will receive an allocation of 2,500 with 2,000 of these Stand at €40 each and 500 Terrace at €25 each.

The Tipperary County Board will give an allocation of tickets to every club in the county based on a points system that credits clubs with members fully registered in Croke Park.

Clubs in Tipperary will receive Stand tickets for this weekend’s showdown.

It is understood that the Limerick County Board will follow a similar model and allocate tickets to each club in the county.

Caherline GAA in Limerick will give their tickets to members via a draw.

There will be no public sale of Munster SHC final tickets unless clubs fail to sell their allocation of tickets.

Limerick manager John Kiely has reviewed the new penalty rule with his team ahead of clash with Tipperary. Speaking to Michael Moynihan of the Irish Examiner, he also said that full-back Mike Casey will miss the Munster final

The hurling world has been very confused since a controversial moment in the Munster Senior hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Clare.

At a pivotal moment in last week’s game, Clare’s Aidan McCarthy slide tackled Tippman Jake Morris near the side-line of the 21-yard line. The new rule allows the referee to use their own opinion to decide the severity of a foul near the goals.

The referee that day, James Owens believed that it was a clear goal-scoring chance and awarded Tipperary a penalty while the Clare defender was sin-binned.

This view incensed many viewers and pundits who thought there were enough Clare defenders back to stop a goal. The Limerick boss Kiely agrees with this view after he was at the game in the Gaelic Grounds.

He has decided that the best way to deal with the rule is to prepare his side so that the same incident will not happen to them.

“I think all our cards have been marked at this stage, and nothing will be a surprise to us going forward. I think we’ll have to be careful and not be inviting trouble on ourselves. Hopefully, that’ll be the case,” Kiely said to the Examiner.

Former Limerick hurler Shane Dowling spoke on the incident as well and he believes that there should be more assistance for referees in these cases.

Although the implementation of a VAR-like system would have its critics, Dowling thinks it would really help referees in this very high-paced sport.

“Referees are going to make mistakes but if they have that bit of help it will take that extra pressure off them and ensure that any big calls that are going to be made will be made in the right way,” he said while speaking to BoyleSports’s Leon Blanche.

Mike Casey injury

The Munster Hurling final between Tipperary and Limerick will throw-in at 16:15 on Sunday, 18th July in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Limerick’s sole injury is to full-back, Mike Casey. The hurler recently recovered from an ACL injury but has received a different injury to the same knee.

Although the injury is not as serious as first believed, he will still miss out on the final on Sunday.

Here is all the information you need for Saturdays Munster Football semi-final clash between Cork and Limerick

The match will be streamed on GAAGO at 15:00 from the LIT Gaelic Grounds on Saturday, 10th July.

This game will also be played in front of up to 3,500 spectators in Limerick. Referee Brendan Cawley will be in charge of the tie.

Cork had a mixed league campaign, managing two wins in Roinn 2 South with Clare, Kildare and Laois. They were put into the Munster semi-final automatically so Limerick will have an extra game played to prepare.

Cathal O’Mahony as one of Cork’s free takers will be a vital part of their scoring this weekend.

The Treaty County did have a decent run in the league, beating teams like Tipperary and Wicklow before being knocked out to Derry.

Limerick got to the semi-final after thrashing a poor Waterford team 4-18 to 0-12. This will be nothing like the contest they will have in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday.

Iain Corbett will be Limerick’s shining light. The All-Star nominee proved important in their successes in the League and championship so far.

These two teams have not faced each other in recent years, with new young players this could be an entertaining matchup. Cork might still be looking to get their revenge for their hurling counterparts who lost to Limerick last weekend.

Predicted Starting 15

Cork

Martin (GK); D. O’Mahony, S. Meehan, K. Flahive; P. Walsh, S. Powter, M. Taylor; I. Maguire, K. O’Driscoll; B.Hartnett, S. White, R. Deane; J. O’Rourke, B. Hurley, C. O’Mahony

Limerick

O’Sullivan (GK); S. O’Dea, B. Fanning, M. Donovan; R. Childs, I. Corbett, G. Brown; D. Treacy, D. Childs; C. Sheehan, C. Fahy, A. Enright; D. Neville, R. Bourke, H. Bourke.

https://twitter.com/OfficialCorkGAA/status/1406723379093180419

Betting

Cork are the big favorites with odds of 1/10 to win.

A Draw has odds of 16/1.

Limerick could give a great payout if they get a shock win at odds of 13/2.

Score Prediction

Bar the mixed run of form, Cork are on paper, the stronger side and should beat Limerick by a comfortable score but it is not that easy.

Cork will come out on top, but it will go down to the last few minutes, only a few points will separate the sides. The Rebels should progress to face either Tipperary or Kerry in the Munster Football final.
