John Kiely’s dominant Limerick side beat Galway 1-19 to 0-14 at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday. It was the first meeting between the sides since the 2018 All-Ireland Final. Galway manager Shane O’Neill may have to plan without Joe Canning after he picked up an injury on 47 minutes.

Galway found the target with their first 8 shots on goal. This meant Galway were ahead 0-08 to 0-06 after 23 minutes. David Reidy landing three first half frees for Limerick. All starting Limerick forwards though chipped in with scores from play in the opening period, Graeme Mulcahy, David Dempsey, Tom Morrissey, Gearoid Hegarty and Seamus Flanagan all getting on the scoreboard. It was 0-12 to 0-09 at the break. Joe Canning and Conor Whelan keeping Galway within three points.
The three point lead was doubled when Limerick grabbed a goal. Some good work for Seamus Flanagan who dispossessed Gearoid McInerney found David Dempsey who blasted past Murphy in the goal. Galway to their credit responded with four of the next five points. However, the final 20 minutes was the downfall as they only scored one point. Aaron Gillane, Graeme Mulcahy, Darren O’Connell and Tom Morrissey all turned on the style in the final couple of minutes. Galway tried to get some goals but Nickie Quaid stood firm as Limerick went on to beat Galway by 8 points. We predicted a Limerick win right here.
