We are now well into February which means we are well into sport calendar events 2020
. Over the coming months the amount of sport will obviously increase with some big sporting events of 2020 set to begin. Let’s take a look what is coming up in the next couple of months.
Sport Calendar Events 2020 – February
For Rugby fans it’s the Six Nations that gets under way. Ireland have already secured wins over Scotland and Wales. They face England on Sunday the 22nd of February where they will be hoping to secure the triple crown. The game is in Twickenham it will be difficult but who knows what will happen.
March
March is another big month. There will obviously be no club finals this year on St Patrick’s Day. However, there is plenty of sport. Ireland will host Italy in the Six Nations on March 7th, the women’s team will play Italy on March 8th. Cheltenham gets underway on March 10th and concludes the 13th of March. Ireland then play France in what could be a potential Grand Slam decider at the Stade De France on the 14th of March. The women’s team play France a day later.
The National Hurling Final is also down for decision. This is likely to take place on the 21/22nd of March. Then it’s the Euro 2020 play-off between Ireland and Slovakia on March 26th. The National Football League Finals take place on the 28th/29th of March.
April
Golf fans will be delighted to know the Master tournament at Augusta takes place from the 9th to 12th of April. Plenty of Irish eyes will be focusing on players like Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.
May
May is a month when the hurling and football championships begin. The Premier League finishes up in May, where is it looking like Liverpool fans will be celebrating. The Champions Cup and Challenge Cup finals also take place on the weekend of the 22nd of May. Leinster are looking strong to win another title. The Irish Open also takes place as does the Champions League final on May 30th.
June
Euro 2020 commences on the 12th of June. The first of the provincial football finals takes place on June 14th, who will win it in 2020? Galway, Mayo, Roscommon? The US Open is from 18th to the 21st of June in golf. June the 20th will be a busy day with the Champions Cup Final and the Leinster football final taking place. The Munster and Ulster Football finals take place a day later. Joe McDonagh, Christy Ring and Munster and Leinster hurling finals also take place on June 28th. Tennis lovers will be glued to their screens from June 29th as Wimbledon commences.
July
Ireland rugby make the journey to play Australia in the summer tour. They play on the 4th of July in test 1, before playing a week later in test number 2. The super 8’s and hurling quarter finals also take place. The Wimbledon tennis finals will take place on the 12th of July as does the Euro 2020 final. The Olympic Games begin on July 24th, while the All-Ireland semi-finals will also be played that weekend, the 25th/26th of July.
August
August is probably the busiest month of the sporting year. Another round of the super 8’s take place, the All-Ireland football semi-finals take place a week later. The closing ceremony for the Olympic Games also takes place. The Camogie semi-finals and the All-Ireland senior hurling final is also down for decision on the 15th and 16th respectively. The Ladies football semi-finals also takes place as does the All-Ireland senior football final on the 30th? Will Dublin make it 6 in a row?
September
It’s another big month for golf fans with the Ryder Cup on the 25th to the 27th. The Paralympic games ceremony also takes place. The Camogie finals take place on the 6th of September, with the Ladies football finals a week later on the 13th.
October
The men’s 2020 world cup in cricket takes place from the 18th of October and last for a full month. The tournament takes place in Australia. British Champions Day takes place at Ascot as does the Chicago Marathon
November
The month of November will be a big month for rugby with Ireland taking on Australia in the autumn international on the 7th, a week later they play World Champions South Africa, before they play Japan on the 21st of November. The UK Snooker Championship also gets underway
December
The club all-ireland semi-finals take place on the weekend of the 12th/13th of December. The Christmas festival at Leopardstown is also for down decision as it the PDC World Darts Championship.
